Community members, students, and staff gathered Monday evening to officially unveil Newark High School’s new cafeteria and two-story science center, designed by Legat & Kingscott. Other new spaces opened in this phase of the project include art classrooms, and a “Call to College” advising center.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, former Newark Superintendent Keith Richards and his wife Angie dedicated the 400-seat Student Commons, named in their honor, which serves as a school gathering place and cafeteria.

The second phase of this project has begun and includes 28 classrooms for math and English. This summer, the final phase of the project will kick off with the demolition of three buildings and renovation of the library.

The entire project will be completed by spring 2013.
